first computer network, and one that is still explored today by many hackers, is called ARPANET and was created in the late 1960s by researchers working on projects for the u.s. Defense Department. For balance sheet accounts, then, Amount is semiadditive that is, it can be aggregated across any dimension except time, in which case it must use the last available value. You learned about semiadditive aggregations in 5. For handling balance sheet accounts, the best option is the LastNonEmpty aggregate function, but that would not work well with the profit and loss accounts. Instead, you can use the ByAccount aggregate function. This function applies different aggregate functions to different attributes at query time, based on the specified account type for each attribute. For example, LastNonEmpty is applied to asset accounts and the Sum function is applied to revenue accounts. To use the ByAccount aggregate function, you must have one (and only one) dimension in the cube for which the Type property equals Accounts. You also must be sure to set the parent key attribute s Type property to Account and its Usage property to Parent. If you specify the Account dimension type when using the New Dimension Wizard to build the dimension, these property settings will be applied automatically. In this procedure, you ll change the AggregateFunction property of the Account measure to LastNonEmpty to observe the aggregation behavior. Use the LastNonEmpty function with an Account dimension 1.
