The first program you are going to make creates a very simple drum kit that is controlled from an Xbox gamepad. Each button is assigned a different drum sound, enabling you to, use your console to play the drums.

Whenever you write a program, you need to consider how things will be organized. At the moment, all the files related to a particular game program are stored in a single directory in the file store of the PC. You should be familiar with using directories, or folders as they are sometimes called. The Microsoft Windows operating systems provide folders for your documents and pictures so that you can easily group documents and pictures together. When XNA Game Studio 2.0 creates a new XNA project, it will make a new folder that will hold all the information for a particular solution. This folder will contain other folders, reflecting the way that XNA Game Studio 2.0 organizes things. Because you re about to add a whole bunch of sound files to the DrumPad project, it would make sense to put these all together in a particular place. You can get XNA Game Studio 2.0 to create such a location. You ll create a Sounds folder and put everything concerning sound in this single location. This will include all the sound samples and also the XACT project file that will create the content that will be loaded into the game program. Figure 7-1 shows how you can use XNA Game Studio 2.0 to create a new content folder. Start by right-clicking the Content item in the DrumPad project in the Solution Explorer and find your way to the New Folder option, as shown.
