You ll notice that this relationship is set up as a Regular relationship. When a regular relationship exists between a measure group and a dimension, at least one column in the fact table is joined to one column in the dimension table according to the DSV. (Remember that you can create relationships in the DSV that don t actually exist in the physical relational tables.) When the relationship type is Regular, you must specify a granularity attribute, which is the dimension attribute that represents the lowest level of detail in the fact table. Put another way, it s simply the attribute for which there is a column in the measure group s fact table. In this case, Subcategory is an attribute that has a key column and a name column defined, but Subcategory is the name of the attribute and therefore is the value assigned to the Granularity Attribute box. If you look at the Relationship table below the Granularity Attribute box, you ll see the Dimension Column is defined as ProductSubcategoryKey, which is the key column for the Subcategory attribute. This value is populated in the Dimension Columns list

XNA Game Studio 2.0 can make a whole range of different projects, depending on what you actually want to build. The skeletons for each of these types of program are contained in project templates and Starter Kits. When you install XNA, you also install the SpaceWar Starter Kit. You can download and install other Starter Kits from the Creators Club Web site. You are going to use a template to create an empty XNA project. Figure 1-4 shows all the possible types of projects that can be created. You need to select one of two projects: select the Xbox 360 game template if you want to run your program on the Xbox 360 or select the Windows game template if you want to run your program on a PC. Later in this chapter, I ll show you how you can create a workspace containing two projects, one for each target device. For now, you should just choose the one you want to use; the way that the program works is identical for both. Call the project MoodLight because that is what we are building first. You can use the Browse button to select an appropriate destination for the project. You should ensure that the Create Directory for Solution checkbox is checked so that all the files for this game will be held in one place. The Measure Group Columns list is used to identify the foreign key column in the fact table that corresponds to the dimension key column. All of the settings in this dialog box are set automatically by the Cube Wizard if relationships in the data source view are correctly defined. When defining regular relationships, you shouldn t need to make changes here unless the structure of your dimensions or fact tables changes later. There are several other relationship types that will require manual configuration here, and you ll learn more about them in 9, Exploring Special Features. Before moving on to the next section, notice the warning message at the bottom of the Define Relationship dialog box: If you select a non-key granularity attribute, the server will not be able to aggregate data properly unless you make sure that all other attributes are directly or indirectly related to it by specifying them as related attributes. This message appears because ProductSubcategoryKey is not the key attribute for the Product dimension, even though it is a key column for an attribute. Remember that each dimension can have only one key attribute to uniquely identify the leaf-level of the dimension. If ProductSubcategoryKey is not correctly related to other attributes in the same dimension, then you will get incorrect results when browsing the cube.
